Jeff Green benched due to being terrible

The Memphis Grizzlies lost to the Houston Rockets Tuesday, 107-91. They lost because the Rockets smashed them on the backboards, 42-31. They lost because the Rockets hit 18 — 18! — 3-pointers, for more than half their points.

But the biggest story of the evening was the second-half benching of Green, a man who previously could do no wrong.

And make no mistake, it was a benching, although Joerger tried to soften things a bit.

"It wasn't a disciplinary decision at all," he said. "I just thought that Vince was giving us a little bit of a spark."

Carter was minus-13 on the night.

So now the question is what happens, where the Grizzlies and Green go from here. Green said all the right things after the game, said that "I'm just sorry we lost," and "this isn't about Jeff Green."

But Green is a free agent at the end of this season. He can't be happy to see his market value slipping away. And if the Grizzlies don't want to lose him for nothing — they gave up a first-rounder for him, after all — why not deal him away now?

Yes, it would be admitting that last year's trade was a bad one. But that's not exactly a secret by now.

Speaking of which, you know when that trade happened?

We won't even get that pick until 2018 at the earliest and that's only if the Grizz pick 13th or later this year, which isn't even for certain at this point.  They basically need to send a pick to the Nuggets first, but it's top 12 protected.  If it rolls back all the way to 2021, it's completely unprotected for us, although that is almost certainly not happening.

The one potentially golden asset that no one here talks about.

We got a potential lottery pick for Jeff Green who was probably going to opt out of his contract had he stayed with the Celtics. Well done Danny.

Pick could end up being good.  Z won't be around much longer and Memphis will probably look at moving gasol and reloading before he gets to that age that he'd play for someone with championship hopes.

Ainge learnt from the master, Auerbach's trade of Henderson back in 84 for a future draft pick was the trade that opened up a starting spot for Danny, projecting other teams future arc's is what separates the average GM's with the great ones, Winning in 08 bought Ainge time to implement his master plan , Good chance that the Memphis pick rivals the Nets picks for value.Just got to keep the fingers crossed that the high end prospects the Celts end up with don't overdose on cocaine right after we draft them.

Green is probably a great guy, but I don't think he had the desire to be great, or even really good. He had the ability to be a 20 ppg scorer but he never worked at making his shot consistent and he didn't have the aggressive personality required to do so.

His continued apathy now means he can't even play for a team that is desperate for scoring. It's too bad, but not everybody wants to put the work in.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see a Lance Stephenson-Jeff Green swap. Both guys would fit on their teams very well if they switched places.

It's sad to think of what Green could be...if he had the mindset of Smart he'd average like 25 a game. He's just so passive

I thought green played harder for us...he has kinda sucked for memphis..we got him when he was actually a little more motivated.
