Houston ends up with 14 guaranteed contracts and 2 partially guaranteed contracts (plus 3 camp deals).  OKC still has 16 contracts and 3 non-guaranteed.  Rosters are getting cut down, but still some players are going to be available.

Why would the thunder do this? Do they really want those second round pics that bad?

Isn't OKC just better off waiving the guys they have than doing this?
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I’m fascinated with the amount of deals on the NBA that have little to no effect on the footprint of a team’s roster.there are just so many different ways to approach the salary and contract structures.
Yup

I guess Porter is going to be gone for a while after this, I know they've brought back wife beaters once they have been "rehabilitated" (and if they are good players) but surely this would have been the last straw for him.

The picks are going to OKC, not Houston, so that’s the payoff.

I know that. So they’re just going to waive KP? $60 Million for two second rounders? Its an idiotic move unless Houston is paying a good portion of that money owed

It's there a limit to how much cash a team can send out in a trade?  The thunder had to waive a guaranteed deal or 2 to get to the max 15 so you need to take into account that salary as well.

Actually this is just an idiotic move period. Why waive him, just tell him to go home and keep that contract on the books to use as a filler down the road. OKC should be targeting Embiid right now

And if you’re OKC how are you not at least trying to get out of Bertans here. Just idiotic, Stone has compromising pictures of Presti or something

From Woj:

“Thunder will have to pay the $16.9M guaranteed left on Porter Jr., contract as they waive him. OKC gathered four second-round picks in acquiring and moving Oladipo's $9.5M expiring deal this offseason. OKC has 15 first-round and 22 second-round picks over the next seven years.“

Make it make sense. Presti is seriously overvaluing 2nd rounders

It's not $60 million; only $16 million or so is guaranteed.

OKC took on a net of $5 million for two #2s.
