Right.

It pretty much comes down to KC Jones (and maybe DJ and Satch). Do you value their chip production over Ray/Rondo/Toine individual production...

I think if the definition is "great" you have to include team success in the matrix, and therefore KC and DJ are in.

There is no way that Bill Sharman should be left off however.

This is a super fun exercise and I’m not as well versed on Celtics history as others, but my 2 cents…

- Reggie, Antoine, and Rondo were three of my favorite players ever, but I’m not sure any belong in the top 15. Reggie didn’t play long enough at a high level and didn’t sniff significant playoff success (RIP), Antoine wasn’t good enough and peaked at the ECF, and Rondo was the 4th best player on a title team.

- KG is one of the best players in history, but did he play enough seasons in Boston to qualify? I’m leaning yes, but it’s not straightforward.

- Maxwell didn’t play that long with the Celtics and was never an elite player but the sheer fact he was finals MVP in ‘81 should count for a lot.

Garnett's 2008 season was matched by few players in Celtics history, I'd have him there considering that he churned out 4 more quality years from 2010 to 2013 after his ACL tear.

Reggie Lewis should be there. Len Bias would have been there.

KG and DJ belong on that list. Max and Ainge are about even but Max was great when he was healthy.

Edit: Sharman belongs over everyone else I can think of.

Max and Ainge even ? Not even close. Cedric Maxwell was one of the foundations of the 80's teams. He played for 8 seasons in Boston, "Wiggle." Max also carried the team in the '81 finals and he, along with Parish and McHale won game 7 vs the Lakers in 1984.

My final 4 would be Max, Garnett, Dennis Johnson and Paul Silas.

Yes, Paul Silas. As great as those 70's team were, they did not win a title until Silas got there and did not win again after he left.
I look at Paul Silas as a power forward version of Dennis Johnson and Cowens loved playing alongside him.

"Carried" is pretty strong. He had a great series and led the team in scoring in the Finals but Bird and Parish were right behind him and Bird led the team in rebounds, assists, and steals while being the focus.

Max was terrific but did he really do more for/with the Celtics than Sharman or Rondo did? I'm skeptical.

I don't think they've announced a date yet.  Even the voting website just says "later this season".

Tier 1
Bird, Russell, Havlicek

Tier 2
Cousy, Cowens, McHale, Pierce

Tier 3
S. Jones, White, Parish

Tier 4
Tommy, Sanders, DJ, KG, Toine

I think that is my list.  At least the top 2 players from every title and then guys that played a longer time or had great success.  I had a real hard time with that last spot, but went with Toine because I always loved Toine.  It will probably be Lewis as a result of his untimely death (or Rondo for recency bias), but for me I went with Toine's 8 seasons over Lewis' 6.
I bet Russell would put Sam Jones in tier 1.

I was 14/15.  I had Satch instead of Ray.
