Setting a precedent is good. Wonder how much time Smart is suspended when he punches a picture frame or goes postal and almost comes to blows with a coach or teammate that questions his shot selection?

Totally agree. Best thing is it's not a significantly material punishment as it's a preseason game, but as Nick said it sets a precedent and is enough to send a message that discipline is paramount.

Until one of those players pushes back. Not saying this is a big deal, but let's see. Established vets clashing with a new regime is a tried and true theme in pro sports.

Smart’s lack of past in house discipline does not necessarily mean stuff like this never happened before, maybe Stevens swept it under the rug in the past? It’s possible, he was a players coach. I like this type of assertive discipline from a coach, could be just what this team needs to foster an environment of professionalism and accountability that leads to winning basketball games.

Here is my question: What was Smart doing after the game that he was so tired he couldn't wake up on time or made him forget about setting an alarm or calling in a wake up call?

If you are a valued employee and you haven’t had a history of missing flights, would your employer ban you from your next meeting or would they just get you (or tell you to get yourself) on the next flight?   Not saying Ime is wrong, just suggesting that NBA isn’t analogous to typical work situations.

Ime is a new coach. If he lets something like this go too early then it sends a message the team can walk all over him. Especially if it's a supposed captain of the team. What does that say to the rest of the guys?

  I hate that Marcus is saying the captain tag is meaningless. It’s not to Ime so Smart can spin things however he wants. He’s undermining the coach. He’s not helping now. If it was him you can be sure he’d find it meaningful. No more equal opportunity.
