This Bleacher Report article today proposed a Lillard trade where we keep Jaylen and Smart. Seems far fetched but Interested to see what people think.
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2947725-br-nba-experts-build-5-new-blockbuster-trades

Celtics receive
Damian Lillard
Derrick Jones Jr.;

Blazers receive
Al Horford,
Aaron Nesmith,
Romeo Langford,
Grant Williams,
Payton Pritchard,
two first-rounders and two pick swaps

https://fanspo.com/nba/s/general/trades/TjFgyzuKmwtK-b/al-horford-and-all-the-young-celtics-for-lillard
Works in the trade machine

I don't think it's impossible. The prize here for the Blazers would be to roll on with Horford and his non guaranteed 2022 contract. I could also see Pritchard being an attractive piece for them given the local connection. Maybe they'd do us a solid by wanting to trade with Ime Udoka since he's been great for the city as well.

Does a Starting 5 of Lillard, Smart, Jaylen, Tatum, Robert Williams compete for a championship?

It's highway robbery for us and so I love it.
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.

This team doesn’t need another undersized defensive liability at PG who is taking away shots from Brown and Tatum. We’ve tried it a few times and it doesn’t work.

Agreed. Plus Lillard is north of 30 with a bananas contract

Lillard is clearly the best asset in the trade so from a value standpoint, the Celtics would win the trade by a mile.  From a fit standpoint, I don't see it, as others have already said.  It is like a better, healthier, more expensive version of Kemba.  Interesting, but far fetched in my mind.

Gutting our team for a 31 yr old PG is probably not a good idea. Plus, Portland would want Jaylen Brown, not our entire bench.

And as others have said, he doesn't seem like a good fit with JT & JB.

He may be a defensive liability, but he’s definitely not undersized.  6’2” (no shoes) with a 6’8” wingspan.

If Boston can acquire any real legit star while keeping Tatum and Brown, then Boston has to do it without giving it a second thought.  You fill in around your top 3 in that scenario.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

You wouldn’t even need to do that much filling in in this scenario.  That’s one reason why it would never happen.

Williams / Kanter / Fernando
Tatum / Jabari
Brown / Jones
Smart / Richardson
Lillard / Schroder

That’s a title contender right from the jump.

I'd do it. Lillard is a special player. BS wants a vet team and doesn't like draft picks so I could see BS on board.

Um, I would be tripping all over myself to accept this offer. I can't believe some people are talking about fit on that proposed deal.

I was on the fence, but after seeing that... Yeah, you do the trade and don't look back. All that team needs is a veteran 4, and we're golden.

Yeah, I can't imagine any hesitancy for this deal. You do it and you're a contender on day one. It might take a year to gel, but next summer you're suddenly a top 2-3 free agent destination and your team in 2022-2023 is likely a title favorite. No question about it.

I can't believe anyone would not consider this. That team is insane. Veterans like Millsap would probably jump at the chance to sign here too.
