winning the championship this year would put them in the same conversation as the 80's teams...

1984: NBA FINALS - WON
1985: ECF- WON
1986: NBA FINALS - WON
1987: ECF - WON
1988: EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMI-FINALS - WON

2008: NBA FINALS - WON
2009: EASTERN CONFERENCE 1ST ROUND - WON
2010: ECF - WON
2011: EASTERN CONFERENCE 1ST ROUND - WON
2012: ?

Those teams went to 4 straight NBA Finals plus an ECF in the final year of that 5 year stretch.

This team has been to the Finals only twice and bounced in the conference semis the other two times.

Not quite on par with the mid-late 80s teams.

Nope, though injuries certainly played a part in that. But its not like the 80s celtics didn't have their share too.
