Amir Johnson is off the table for the C's as a free Agent.
According to Realgm.com Amir signed a 5 yr $34million dollar deal.

Wow.  So much for teams being worried about the economy / the new CBA.

I know people love Amir's potential, but $7 million per year seems like a lot for a guy who averaged 6/5 and didn't distinguish himself on either end.

Yeah, I think the Raptors overpaid too. They could have gotten him for a starting salary of $4 million easily enough.

That said, I still think it's a good contract. Amir will be good value for that paycheck so long as the Raptors give him good minutes (24+mpg).

Wow.
Teams are really spending money.  All of this will just make it harder for Boston to sign the backup help it so desperately needs (assuming Boston brings back PP and Ray).
Celtics fan for life.

The bad general managers of the NBA are running wild today. Teams love locking themselves into longterm mediocrity lately.

Donald Sterling might try to make his gm sign Scalabrine to the MLE for 5 years to steal the day's headlines!

Just bonkers. The guy isn't even as good as Big Baby.

I assume this kills off any David Lee to Toronto (in a S&T for Bosh) talk.

This is all completely insane. The amount of the signings and the amount of the expected signings (ala Jefferson) shows no fiscal restrait whatsoever. These GMs are wrecking their franchise's value by giving them obscene debt. Where are the CFO's? Any stockholder should be outraged.

Maybe RJ wasn't so stupid to opt out...a lot of teams offering a lot of "what the?" contracts so far.

Alright I'm sticking to my guns on that one. No one should go over 7 million per year for Jefferson.

We'll see though!! Hahah

question is, how do contracts like this help the owners' negotiations next year? How are they giving out these contracts if they're struggling?

Anyone else get the feeling that these GMs are expecting the lockout to change some of the rules around these contracts?
