I'd really like to say my Dukies are gonna take it all this year, but boy did that Maryland loss tonight really take the wind out of my sails.  They just seem so average this year.

Oh well, here's to hoping.  Go Duke!

And hey, at least they swept those insipid Tar Heels this year.

For those who are watching right now. We can discuss the Big Dance right here.

It's been okay so far. Bucknell had a little scare there but Butler seems to be pulling away. No surprise for Michigan State. Look for St. Mary's giving Memphis trouble.

Not at the house and no TV, you can watch every game, LIVE at NCAA March Madness Live, on your phone or computer or tablet.

Muscala fizzled.

Pittsburgh vs Wichita State right now is very close. (8 v 9 matchup)

That Sim Bhullar kid from New Mexico State...

That kid is HUGE! 7'5'" 340 pounds of a young man. I mean, we need a big right?

I understand you can't teach height, but I sure as heck would try hard to with this kid (who looks like he's just all size, as of right now).

It's weird, it always seems like in the NBA, teams with shaky defenses who get by on offense get exposed in the playoffs, and in the NCAAs it's just the opposite.

I'm thinking of calling this "the Pittsburgh Effect".

It is early but Southern is giving #1 Gonzaga some fits.

Today may be the day that a 16 will beat a 1? I'm tuned in.

Marquette survived by a hair there. Davidson's players did not want to take the FT's I guess.

My bracket is so messed up. Bucknell, St. Mary's, Pitt and Davidson loses. Bleh!

Southern U., although their offense have come to a stop, is still within striking distance against #1 Gonzaga.

But that Kelly Olynyk, man, he gets the ball in the post, he gets space, it's a beauty to watch on how he operates down low.

Yuck, way too much chalk.

Already lost St Mary's, S Dakota St, Pitt and will be losing Belmont shortly.  UNLV gonna need to make a comeback, or that's 5 losses on the first day.  Yikes!

I don't know why I even bother. I hate watching college ball unless it's a Duke game, so I should know I have no chance at this, seeing as how I have no clue about any of these teams.

I'd forgotten that the same school (Florida Gulf-Coast) knocked off Miami earlier this year.  That's two #2 seeds beaten this season.  Fellas are legit.

I'm looking forward to VCU/Mich, Butler/Marquette, and possibly (if it's close) Louisville/Colorado St.  Good contrast there.  Also the Cuse game but that's for fanship reasons.

I guess, in retrsopect, it wasn't that bad.

#1 Gonzaga SHOCKED.

Well, not really shocked here. I always thought they were never going to get past the Elite Eight. A little surprised that it came this early.

Olynyk is going to stay, I believe. Harris is a 2nd round steal at this point.

Has there ever been a #1 seed that people have had less faith in?

Didn't see a lot of brackets have them make even the Elite 8 never mind the Final Four. Can't say I was too surprised by this one.

Agreed. I'm just a little surprised that it came at the hands of a #9. I thought for sure Kansas St. would beat them (KSU got upset too).

Sick ending to the Iowa St/ Ohio St game.

The west bracket is being served to Ohio St on a silver platter right now. No reason why they shouldn't end up in the Final Four.

Also, I changed the name of this thread to the more aptly named "2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament".   The earlier title probably led to the confusion of the multiple threads.

Man, thank god for that buzzer beater by OSU.

My West Region bracket is pretty much all red.  The only three games I got right in that entire bracket were Gonzaga's lone win, and OSU's two wins.  Every other pick was wrong.  Luckily I had the Zags out in the next round anyway, and OSU making the Final Four.

Well, at least I can rest easy now that UNC is eliminated.  There's only two programs that I absolutely loathe; UNC, and UConn.

Hopefully Duke can win tonight, even though it would hurt my bracket.  As much as I want them to win, I have Creighton picking them off tonight, in my bracket.  This year's team just seems pretty average for a Duke team.

I love how they just hustle on both ends. I understand it's a cliche to say that a team should play together, but that's what they are really doing. Helping each other on defense, not taking a lot of silly shots. They run the floor like it's the most important thing to do.

I hope they make a Final Four run. I really do. I'm not done watching this team just yet.

Edit:

Any NBA team who will draft Jamal Franklin will have an awesome player. Love his leadership, his physical tools, skills and potential and that character he showed after the game (he congratulated Sherwood Brown).

yup. Kid is a stud. He can't shoot well?? And he shot 3-6 from the three

He just has this thing about him that oozes skill and confidence. Also has generous height for a pg.

At this rate, whose to say he can't go #1.

Oliadipo spot in the draft 5-10 wasn't really affected and he did ok. But Zeller was sort of a no show. He should of dominated in the interior and nothing. I think he could really drop and even out of the lotto. Short wingspan and lack of good body strength will be a concern at the next level. Might be no better than a Jason Smith, Josh Mcroberts. If he falls to us, i hope Danny skips on him also

Our last pick from the Cuse hasn't panned out.   Zeller definitely whiffed one but he will be gone by the time we pick even with this performance, I just hope we pass on Olynyk ( who reminds me of Dwayne Schintzius because of the hair).

It is a maxim of basketball that big guys with long hair are not good unless they are vegetarians and then they might have bad feet and like the Grateful Dead.

I'll tell you what, this Duke team is far from it's most talented.  They likely don't have one single future NBA star, and they night not even have any starters at all.  They sure as heck play as hard as any Duke team, though, and really have me believing they can win this thing.

A week ago I wouldn't have thought it.  Louisville will be a test, but if they can get by them, I think the title is theirs to lose.

Louisville is like Duke , without a single future nba star. Both teams are well coached, have a balanced lineup and one guy to make some clutch shots in Curry and Smith.

Kansas won the game but Trey Burke, stole it away from them, plain and simple. That last three in regulation was impossible. Way out of the nba 3 line even and he shot it like it was nothing.

Burkes stock imo has skyrocketed after this game and wouldn't be surprised if he leapfrogs Smart, Oliadipo and possibly mclemore in the draft.  Someone mention Burke reminds them of Rondo but for me, the way he can shoot, he is closer to a Chris Paul.

They both rely on quickness rather than explosion. Neither are the traditonal Rondo type pg's,  both can score a variety of ways. I think Burke is a better facilitator, but his instincts are to score first just like Chalmers. I would say Chris Paul is a strech just because I don't think he has the court vision or defense instincts that CP3 came into the league with.

Yeah. Well i don't mean , he will be like cp3 exactly or even lite version. But the way he plays his closer to cp3 style vs Rondo or Chalmers.

Chalmers has little to no athleticsm and unable to drive and finish a tough layup. Burke can penetrate pretty good ,finish around the basket is decent and especially getting a few guys to jump with him and making acrobatic passes inside or out to the the three point line. IF his shot was more consistent , definitely cp3 or cp3 lite version comparisons are valid.

That had to have been a compound fracture to Kevin Ware, the way all the players went to the floor, everyone crying, etc. - they were also very cognizant of not letting anyone see, hiding it from the cameras. Really, really ugly ... you rarely see that kind of injury in basketball. Thoughts are with him and his family.

Just watched the replay, and his lower leg is dangling by the tendons, the bones completely separated. Just horrific, and nobody touched him, he just came down on it wrong and it gave way. Pretty rare for basketball, though you see more of that kind of injury in soccer and football. Believe it or not, a fracture like that can very often be quicker to heal than a partial break, (with splinters), or a spiral fracture, (which I had from skiing when I was eight). Blessings to him and his family.

Just watching the game, Dieng has outplayed out impacted Plumlee.  Plumlee is definitely not a shot blocker and post moves are non existant.

Dieng's length and footspeed alone has done alot of damage. At this rate, things have flipped between Plumlee going within the lotto and Dieng somewhere later in the draft i would guess.

I hope danny is watching the game and has Dieng as an option when we pick.

Indeed, there was contact. And Louisville had minimal contact with the ball for a very short time.

In my opion the best call was to play on with Louisville up by 3 and possession for the Shockers.

only thing I really did right in this tournament was pick the eventual winner.  brackets took such a beating

What did everyone think of Dieng?

I wrote about him in the game preview and came out even more impressed.

KG's killer instinct rubbing off on him would do him some good.

I think he was the best NBA prospect in that game last night.  Really like his game.  Didn't really know of him before the tourney (don't want much college ball) but the kid impressed the heck out of me throughout the tourney.

He's got size, ridiculous athleticism, and some good, old fashioned brute strength.  Had this one beautiful hook shot in the 2nd half last night,   Don't see the hook almost at all in college ball!

He was pretty limited in some of the other games offensively but should be a Dikembe Mutumbo type at the worst.  I am always leery of Pitino guys because he is a system coach and guys have to fit his system.   Will he fit ours?   He will be gone by the time we pick most likely so it's moot.   But I can't recall many great Pitino pros.

It was a really fun tournament, but man, officiating was lousy throughout the whole thing.  Lots and lots of bad calls, both in and out of crunch time.

I liked him a lot as well. Reminded me a lot of Serge Ibaka with the blocks and alterig shots. Also seemed like a decent offensive game, couple jumpers and hook shots
