Thoughts on just completely making over the team with Stevens at the helm (we’ll see who tunes him out after shipping out virtually everyone from 2020-2021):

https://tradenba.com/trades/xSrOCp96J

The big moves are:

1) Tatum and Smart for KAT and Anthony Edwards
2) Brown and Carsen Edwards for Haliburton, Barnes and SAC’s 2022 1st round pick

Our top duo get shipped west so we do not need to see them all but twice per year, if that.

We then salary dump Kemba to his hometown, and move Timelord, TT and that Sac 1st for RJ Barrett.

The only survivors of the purge would be Pritchard, Nesmith and Langford (and even Langford should be dangled in the draft if he has any value).

Here would be the lineup heading into the draft:

Haliburton/Pritchard/Madar
A. Edwards/Langford
Barrett/Nesmith
Barnes
KAT

Obviously draft the best available 4/5 (if we just tank now, which we ought to do, maybe we get lucky in the lottery and end up with Evan Mobley or Jaylen Johnson?). Then we use the MLE on a 4/5 (Theis, Theis, baby? Or Kelly Olynyk?). Finally, shore up the bench with vet minimum deals (Avery Bradley? Evan Turner?).

Thoughts? Any other wholesale makeover ideas that make sense?

So become a slightly better version of the current Wolves, the worst team in the league. And stay that bad maybe for years?

Barrett and Haliburton have just as much potential as Anthony Edwards. This would be surrounding KAT with three dynamic young players, a solid veteran starter in Barnes, our current youngest players in Pritchard, Langford and Nesmith, and then maybe we get lucky in the lottery and end up with Evan Mobley or Jaylen Johnson? If we got super lucky and wound up with Mobley, we’re looking real good with our talented youth and superstar coach:

Haliburton/Pritchard/Madar
Edwards/Langford
Barnes/Barrett/Nesmith
KAT
Mobley

So downgrade our roster and then tank, in the hopes of getting to a spot similar to the one we're presently at?

Pass.

Tank now to increase our lottery chances (Mobley is going to be a superstar). Then in the off-season turn our Tatum/Brown/Smart/Kemba train into a ton of potential with a superstar in KAT leading the way. This time next year, if they all thrive under Stevens like I think they would, we could be competing for a title.

There’s just no path forward with our current roster. Tatum and Brown are both off their rookie deals so it’s really hard to improve things in this situation. It’s not even clear if Tatum and Brown like playing together, let alone aspire to be the next great championship wing duo...

So ditch our last rebuild to start a new rebuild?

Yup. The last rebuild did not quite work and this season of Tatum/Brown is showing they are maybe not the players to build around.

Don't quit your day job, and go into sports management.  JK

These moves make us much worse.

Here is one to try build around Tatum, Brown and Rob.

After I posted I saw that you had Haliburton there so changed my opinion of the team to slightly better than the current worst team in the NBA.

Tatum and Brown are about 3 years away from their starting their peak years. It's at that time that the C's most likely become a true title contender that can finish it off in the playoffs.

You want to completely start over and move any shot at a title to 6-9 years from now, if any of those young players can become what Brown and Tatum are now, which is highly questionable.

It's a horrible idea and it would not surprise me one bit to see every response be a bad one.

And you know this how? By watching mixtapes?

I can’t help but feel this post is an epic troll on the idea that Brad Stevens is a superstar coach?

Trade the entire team because they’ve tuned out the coach, and he’s more important than the players? Check.

The superstar coach needs talented, young players to succeed, because he doesn’t know how to coach star, veteran players? Implied.

I know people say Brad should go because he’s been coaching the same team for too long. That players get tired of listening to the same coach for more than 5 years.

Do those people not understand that there are only 2 players that have spent 5 years listening to Coach Stevens? Due to youth and roster churn; Smart and Brown are it folks, and this is Brown’s 5th and it’s not over yet. 2 players that could possibly be tired of listening to Stevens after the magical 5 year limit.

Maybe I am wrong, but it doesn’t smell like it.

I'm sorry is KAT really more valuable than Tatum?  Just because he's a big?  Tatum could get that Womves team to the 8 seed at least

Putting aside trading all of our core for the TWolves core and a rookie, he RWill for Barrett swap is insanity.

Time Lord is a few minutes played shy of leading the league in FG%, block %, offensive rating, top-3 in rebound percentage... he's literally the most efficient center in the league not named Embiid or Jokic right now. And we're going to add a good 1st rounder to swap him for RJ Barrett, who's a below average starter at both ends of the floor? Yiiiiikes.

Advanced stats aren't perfect, but these moves are a billboard for overrating counting stats.

That's generous.

RWilliams PER 24.5, Usage 13.8%, ORtg 138, DRtg 104
Barrett PER 12.2, Usage  24.0%. ORtg 100, DRtg 112

This is not a good trade idea.
