How did Kornet ever get a $2.3 million salary?

I guess "7 footer who can shoot threes" is intriguing, but not for more than the minimum.

Fun fact:  "The 7-foot-1 big man is the NCAA's all-time leader in 3-pointers made by a 7-footer".

Of course, his career 3PT% in college was 32%, and he hit 150 3PTs over a total of four years, so I wouldn't get too excited.

I’m confused why the Celtics took him on when he takes a roster spot and prohibits their ability to sign a buyout guy...

What am I missing here?

He's hitting threes at 28% over the last two years. Taking 7 three point shots per36 over that time too. Yuck

Still seems like they’re better off having some wiggle room below the tax threshold than taking him on.

You’re missing that the Bulls needed to send out salary to take on Theis, otherwise there would have been no deal.

Now, the fair question is why did the Celtics like Mo Wagner enough to move Theis for him, but I do hope we’ll get to find out the answer over the next two months.

He needed to be included to make salaries match with Chicago.  He was the only smallish contract on Chicago's roster that doesn't have guaranteed money next year.

We already have Smart taking nearly 7 per 36 at 32% so there might not be enough shots for both.

Id like to see the kid play before he gets cut
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.
