Jaylen Brown took 24 shots and 18 of those were 3 pointers. Wow...

Sounds like good shot selection to me considering he made over 50% of them.

It is when they are going in, haha.

I mean 40% three point shooting is basically 60% TS lol.

Another game the Celts tried to win by shooting jumpers and hoping the opponent missed too many

This game that’s true.  Only 28 points in the paint.  The other night they had 7 free throws despite scoring 50 of their 96 points in the paint, and Tuesday vs Utah had 4 free throws despite 60 points in the paint.  I’m not sure the prior low free throw games have been due to too much jump shooting.

The Magic are a really big team. Vuce is tall, strong and has a 7'6" wingspan or something crazy, Gordon and Aminu are athletic big wings, and MCW is a huge guard. Only issue is that they're slow, which helped the Jays get open looks a lot

The Celtics held the Magic to 38.1% from the floor.

That's their best defensive FG% number in nearly 14 months. (36.9% vs. Philadelphia - Feb. 1, 2020 - 66 games ago.) They also held a team under 100 for the first time since Feb. 16 (Denver).

Jaylen Brown (10) and the team (23) one shy of the franchise record for 3's.

By the eye test, I have the same feeling that the Cs take way too many Js. OTOH, the stat sheet says they’re 21st in the league in 3-PT attempts. https://www.teamrankings.com/nba/stat/three-pointers-attempted-per-game

Not sure how to square this. I think it could be the kind of 3s they take: too many early in the clock, without moving the ball. Utah leads the league in 3PAs, and it seems to work for them because it’s part of a drive and kick game. They can get wide open looks or layups, and they make the defense work really hard. We often have four guys standing around while one guy works.

Could also be it’s more visible/more of a problem at the end of games, when they’re falling apart. Sometimes it seems like the other team works hard and gets a good shot and we launch an early-clock 3. If it doesn’t fall the team spirals.

The fact that Grant Williams is our "first guy up" if 1 of Theis/Thompson is out is terrifying.

Now I'm still a believer in G-Will long term and think this is a sophomore slump for him. But for this particular season, I think we have to accept he's probably not going to contribute that much.

And hey Brad, can we please not bench Nesmith now for 5 games in a row? He might not be lighting up the scoreboard, but you can tell he's out there doing his best and hustling. I mean how is anyone supposed to develop and improve if you play them 2 games in a row, then randomly DNP them the next 5-6 games?? Your best bet is if Nesmith can find a role and hit some shots off the bench, which is his ideal role anyways. You're definitely not getting them from a guy like Edwards or Green.

This is true, the Cs started to hit 3s and that led to them taking more 3s.  Many were after a drive and kick out pass but some were more of the "settling" type.

All of that said, the main thing that I saw was that Orlando was defending the Pick and Roll by dropping the big and essentially conceding a jumper 3 to the Celtics ball handler.  All the Orlando bigs were doing this but especially Vucevic (his P&R defense was really soft in my opinion).  The guard or wing defender was fighting over the pick but this created a little space for our ball handler.  Once we were on the other side of the pick, we had a little space and the second defender was a good 6' back.

I don't know if that is the new "book" on the Celtics or what but we hit the 3s in this game.  In general, I would say it was the correct shot selection considering how Orlando was defending.
