Make of this what you will.

If the current trade buzz is accurate, the general market for young frontcourt players is robust, with league executives saying both the Indiana Pacers’ Myles Turner and the Atlanta Hawks’ John Collins, big men with the ability to switch between power forward and center, are on the trading block.
https://hoopshype.com/rumor/john-collins-myles-turner-available/

I'm super high on Turner. He'd be the perfect fit for us. Imo, Turner > Capela >>> Theis.

It is really interesting that they are talking about Atlanta moving John Collins. Why would they part ways with him?

They should be treating John Collins like gold. That Trae and John Collins are the future of the franchise. Yet they are not.

Why not? What is happening there?

Tristan Thompson is officially on the market.

I hope he gets bought out...

I don’t.  It would be shocking if he didn’t end up in LA if he’s bought out.

Mook potentially getting moved

https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1224360982035693570?s=20

New York should be moving all their veteran guys for assets. Morris, Randle, Gibson, Portis. A couple of their young guys too - Smith Jr, Nitilinka, maybe Mitchell Robinson (character issues? Does he work hard enough to fulfill potential? NYK should have a good read on that by now).

Build up their assets / trade coffers.

The Lakers already got McGee + Howard. They are both playing great this season. Not to mention, AD can play at the 5 as well. How many Centers do they need?

If Thompson wants to play big minutes in the playoffs with a view to maximizing his value in free agency, we might be the ideal fit for him.

edit: just saw you wrote LA, not Lakers. My bad, you probably have a point there. :)

I agree with all of this. If the Clippers move Harrell, which there have been rumblings of being possible, he would have a really prominent role there. I agree about the Lakers though, Thompson isn't the typical early to mid thirties buy out guy that really cares about chance of a ring more than anything else. For one, he already has one, but more importantly, he is only turning 29 in about a month and still has getting a big contract this offseason to consider. I think it would be a really risk move for him to join the Lakers given there collection of bigs (Vogel also said there is a chance Cousins comes back a few week ago). I don't think Tristan would risk going there on the eve of his free agency despite his potential friendship with Lebron.

Even if they don't move Harrell, I would still see Thompson starting over Zubac for the Clips.

I don't think the Cavs will buy him out.  Trade him, sure, buy him out, seems very unlikely unless some weird stuff is going on behind the scenes.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Yes, I did say LA for a reason, and not specifically Lakers.  I’m not sure which of the two he would go to, but that’s where I’d pick.  And if not there, his home in Toronto could also be tempting.

Thompson is going to have a solid free agent market this summer, regardless of the next four months.  The only thing that would set hi back is suffering a significant injury, so if he’s worried about his contract, I don’t see “getting a lot of minutes” being a huge positive. Also, no team that he signs with as a buyout would have the cap space to keep him next summer — as a 3-month rental, getting a ring will be his goal.

With a team salary of roughly $123 million, the Spurs are not in the luxury tax, but they do have two wings and a shooter that could become future draft pick assets. The Spurs are working with DeMarre Carroll’s agent Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports & Entertainment to find a new home for the forward, who signed a three-year, $20 million deal last offseason. Carroll, 33, hasn’t found any playing time with the Spurs and is looking to move on, and the team is also shopping 3-point specialist Marco Belinelli. As of now, no serious suitors have stepped up as Belinelli is considered a significant defensive liability.

The C's could use a shooter off the bench. Any interest in Belinelli?

Bellinelli as a cheap pickup would be nice. Another bench shooter.
Second round pick?

I kind of disagree that there is no value in him seeing significant minutes in the playoffs for his contract this summer. He hasn’t played significant basketball in a year and a half at this point. It is certainly hard to tell how good or bad he is right now on a complete dumpster fire of a team and without a good passing point guard playing major minutes. If he gets 25 minutes a game and shows he can bother players like Davis in the playoffs or stay on the court against Houston teams would certainly feel more comfortable paying him then if he is not in the closing lineup for the lakers or only seeing spot minutes behind Davis and Howard and perhaps cousins.

I think Philly would be hot for him, he did well for them a couple of years ago. Could use his shooting.

Isn’t that salary going to be shed anyway when Nene’s incentives for games played end up $0? He has yet to play a game so he won’t get much if any of his incentives which are more than $7M
