Which Fictional Death Affected You Most?

There's a death towards the end of Hell or High Water that is shocking and awful. Don't want to spoil it for those unfamiliar with it.

Also the white dude who's buddies with the black dude in Dawn of the Dead (1978). Their friendship is the heart and soul of the movie.

TP for this too...this was the old cartoon Transformers the Movie back in the 80s, with Orson Welles as Unicron (his last film role before his death just before the film was released) and Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron. Of course back then I had no idea who they were but I found the film on Amazon Prime a few years ago and enjoyed watching it again, brought back great memories of being a kid and having nothing to worry about except Optimus's death

I think videogames do deaths that affect me more, because of things like time spent with the character, and in some instances it being the character that you play as.

Clay's death didn't exactly bring about sadness.  Opie, yes.  Clay, no.  Gemma's death was sadder.  so was Tara's for that matter.

Off the top of my head, the most traumatizing ones definitely seem to be stuff I saw in my childhood. Thomas J in My Girl, Artex in Neverending Story, Charlotte from Charlotte's web.

Definitely need to think of adult ones.

Artex’s death was brutal.

How about the guy in the tower in Saving Private Ryan?

He had advocated for killing the Nazi but they wouldn’t. Then the Nazi gets a knife on him in the tower. The guy screams for his friend down the stairwell who is too scared to help and just whimpers and cries.

And the Nazi tells the the guy to shhhhh, shhhhh, as he slowly pushes the knife into his chest.

My wife still has nightmares about that scene.

Was looking for a different topic in Entertainment and came across this one which I hadn’t previously read.  There are some great ones mentioned here, but I have to say the one above from Private Ryan is the one that is stuck indelibly in my brain. First off, it’s a classic anti-Hollywood set-up where you hope/expect that the cowardly American will save the day, but he doesn’t and the death of the soldier played by Adam Goldberg was haunting and real. Finally overpowered after a fight to the death with the Nazi, it’s the intimacy of the slow death that got to me - face to face, the ‘shhhhh’, the implicit acknowledgment of respect for a fight well-fought, and Goldberg succumbing to the inevitable with the whimper.  I saw the movie only once and part of the reason I’ll never watch it again is not wanting to relive the emotion of that scene. Most recently though, Clay Spenser in Seal Team.  He was the next Bravo 1 and they killed him off due to his other show.  Absolutely crushed!

That's a good starting point.  Can't wait to see what others think.

Wasn't a death per se, but the revelation of how Hodor became Hodor in G.O.T. was pretty [dang] sad and upsetting.
