As everyone knows, the NBA has a noted tendency to assign certain refs to games in which the league has a vested interest in one team winning.  Whether you think the league is biased toward one team or another, it's obvious a Laker win is necessary for this series to be considered competitive. So, what refs do you think will "coincidentally" be assigned for the game?

My picks:

Bennett Salvatore
That weird guy in the hat and shades who sits next to Jack Nicholson
Jeannie Buss in a Violet Palmer disguise

Not sure who will be there.

But I have little doubt that the game will be called closer.  It will effect the Celtics defensive efficiency as kobe and the lakers will get those ticky tacky touch calls.  (the Celtics will get them as well, but the Lakers play a less physical defense, so there will be less calls then for the Lakers)

Agreed, but one thing I've seen about Phil Jackson over the years is that when he complains about the refs, he gets fined...but the reffing usually goes his way for awhile afterwards. This will be a very tough W for a number of reasons, and potential officiating is only one.  If we get Game 3 in ANY fashion, it'll be the most impressive W of the year as far as I'm concerned.

And slightly off-topic, but if (when) the Celtics win the title, can we have a public burning ceremony for that .sig banner?   ;)

We haven't seen Steve Javey yet.

Used to be that an official had to have so many years service in the NBA before they could officiate a Finals game. (If I'm not mistaken)

If that is the case we may see some of the same guys over again.

I can tell you who one of them will be.  I was talking to my brother who had beers with an mlb umpire.  Apparently there is sports officiating in their blood because his dad was an ump and his brother is a ref.  Anyways, his brother will be officiating in the 3rd game.  I wish I knew his name...but all I know is his story.  If any of you have watched the real sports with Bryant Gumbel, he did a story on their family.  I'll try to look for his name later.

I think Bavetta is a lock for either game 3 or 5.  I don't think he is crooked or anything, but he is definitely a ref who gives the advantage to the home team.

I asked this on another thread - Why does the NBA change officails each game?  Why not keep the same refs for the entire series and allow the players to get comfortable with the flow?  Are they that worried about one ref cheating a team?

there are a few reasons that i have heard

getting to ref in the fianls is a reward  for the best in the business (insert joke here). they want to reward these guys on longevity and performance (again, insert joke here).

they do not want one style to dictate the series (one ref calls it tight, favors one team, blah blah blah)

if a ref does not like a coach, or there is friction betweeb kobe and a ref, or KG and a ref, it would not be a long-standing road blokc, just something to put up with for one game, like the regular season.

Jack Nicholson, Leo DiCaprio and Kurt Rambis.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

Earl Strom is not walking through that door, fans. Darell Garretson is not walking through that door, and Jake O'Donnell is not walking through that door.

Using the highest standards put forth by the NBA and it's management, they've come up with the following "Best Choices" for the all-important Game 3 of the NBA Finals:

2010 PAPOUG, 2012 & 2017 PAPTYG CHAMP, HD BOT

Very freaky, Nick ... this is exactly what I had typed, before opting for the improvements below! Truly the most horrendous lineup in the history of the NBA.
