Nah, Bass has an impressive 7'25'' wingspan which allowed him to play bigger than his size. Grant has a 6' 9'75'' wingspan and is a mediocre athlete, but he has deeper range and higher BBIQ. To Bass' credit, basketball was a different game prior to the immergence of the pace-and-space era. Chances are he would have developed a 3pt shot in today's NBA. I mean, he was very reliable from mid range, plus he's a career 83.2% FT shooter. More often than not, FT% is indicative of shooting potential. Unlike Grant, Bass was a black hole on offense. Neither of them can/could put the ball on the floor to create their own shot. All in all, Bass was a better athlete. Grant is a better basketball player. Since both of them play(ed) almost exclusively off the ball, gimme the better athlete (Bass) over the more versatile player (Grant).
I've been pleasantly surprised by Grant this season. I wasn't even sure whether we would have picked his 2022/23 team option tbh. Turns out we shouldn't have asked him to gain weight. He's a swing, not a big. I view him as a useful role player. Nothing more than that. He would have had a slightly higher ceiling if he could have played at small-ball Center.
