Celtics (10-10) at Raptors (9-11) Game #21 11/28/21

Nights like tonight and last weekend (Lakers, Thunder, Rockets games) are why this is all frustrating. You know this team is capable of playing like an elite team and winning a bunch, but it just never seems to be consistent. I'm not saying they are at the level of the likes of BKN and MIL but I don't think they are as bad as the record indicates. But it is what it is, they are maddeningly inconsistent.

Without making too many excuses, we have had at least 2 key guys out for at least 80% of games I'm guessing. If the core of TL, Al, JT, JB, Marcus, Schroder can all stay healthy for a good stretch, I think we win a ton of games.

Richardson really showed out tonight. Easy to forget that he only just turned 28. Elite handle, reasonably explosive first step, nice mid-range game a la DeRozan... He really should only be the 8th or 9th guy up (given how well Romeo is coming on, and Grant has solidified), but I can see him playing a huge regular season role of wearing down opposing wings, and putting up better numbers per 36 than he did in Dallas.

Most of the 4th quarter didn’t descend into iso-ball, which was great. There were a few bad possessions with Tatum at point, but mostly the team (including JT) was making quicker decisions and moving the ball. It’s progress, and I’ll take it.

I looked at the East standings and it doesn’t really look bad. We’re frustrated at Boston’s play but other teams are struggling as well. Three games separate us from #2 Miami. That’s how crazy the East is.

I'm less frustrated by the win losses than by the inconsistent play.

Steady shooting, spread the floor well, made a few nice defensive plays, and played within himself. All around good game for Grant.

He’s turning out to be our version of PJ Tucker. Hope he sustains this throughout the season.

Just realized we have the 6th best record in the NBA over our past 10 games, and we are all talking trade the farm...

It's because the standard deviation between a good and bad performance is really high...so when we win we look really good, but when we lose we look really bad.

Add to that the fact that 6 of the losses (vs NY in 2OT, vs Was in 2OT, vs Chi where we led by 25+ but collapsed in the 4th, vs Dallas where we got Doncic'd, vs Cle where the Cavs won with 2 last second free throws, and vs Spurs where we fell behind by 26, fought back to lead by 7 then were outscored by 15 to lose) were ones that we should have won.

It's those results that people remember because we could easily have been 17-4 and leading the Eastern Conference. That's how small the margins are in terms of changing public perception of the team.
