WOW

Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder planning to step down, according to Woj

Wonder if Charlotte will make a run at him. They have a bright future and it might be an attractive job for a guy that can just take a break and wait for a good job to open up whenever he wants.
Choosing between D'Antoni and Snyder would be interesting. Totally different coaches

Sounds like it was Quin Snyder who was the fall guy. Who is next to go- Mitchell or Gobert. I'd love it if the Celtics can get Gobert...we'd be set for multiple years of contention

Except, there's a reason why Utah never went anywhere with Gobert. For one thing, he's a liability on offense. As in, make Marcus Smart look like Larry Bird on offense.

Run a twin tower back court of Timelord and Gobert, defensively they'd be monsters tho  ;D

and is small and pretty inefficient.  Mitchell isn't a lead guy and that has always been Utah's biggest problem.

Their roster construction is weird. Individually I like Conley and Mitchell, but together they're small and can be inefficient. On the wings they've often had mediocre defenders like Bogdanovic or Jordan Clarkson. They relied a lot on Ingles for ball movement, and they rely on Gobert to keep them in it defensively with little help.

Just odd

Looks like Kyrie isn't going to stay with Brooklyn according to Shams.

I wonder if Durant could be available lol. But I'm also curious to see what BKN does if Kyrie leaves, I mean I don't think they have many tradeable assets to acquire another true star without gutting their current roster

This is gonna be an exciting off season. I wonder what BKN could get for Kyrie.

Westbrook?  Wall?

I am not even sure that BKN will be able to trade Kyrie.  He would have to pick up his option.  Sign and trades would require the team acquiring Kyrie to be below the tax level (hard capped).  Unless that team were to send out a ton of contracts, I don't see how that works.  And if Kyrie does pick up his options, BKN is not obligated to trade him (although they may want to).

The quote says "explore the open market".  I think Kyrie is going to be very disappointed.  No good teams have any money.  Does he want to go to Detroit for example?  I doubt it.  But I don't see how this ends in a trade either.

Sources: Kyrie Irving, Nets are at impasse in conversations about his future in Brooklyn, clearing way for the seven-time All-Star to consider the open market. Lakers and Knicks expected to emerge among potential suitors.

Kyrie would be fun on the Knicks. He'd finally get to be King of his own Castle. Thibs is a PG friendly coach. He'll let Kyrie shoot and make the others play D for him.

Trade Jaylen for Durant.

Durant and Tatum as our new starting forwards. That would be incredible. They were awesome together for Team USA. Would surely win a couple of rings.

Heard that during last season, after Steve Nash had conducted a full practice, Kyrie would drag guys out of the locker room and conduct his own practices.

Absurd. And so disrespectful to his head coach, Nash. Guy decided to miss half the season over an inoculation but feels it necessary to run his own drills with teammates after a full practice.

I hope he opts out and can't get his big contract elsewhere.

I guess technically, no GM can discuss anything with Kyrie's agent, in terms of a team's interest and capacity to sign or trade for Kyrie.  But it is not that hard to look around as see who might actually be able to create cap space to offer a contract to Kyrie.  There aren't many.  Certainly not the Lakers.  The Knicks would have to move some of their major contracts (Randle, Fournier, Rose).

Kyrie's player option is $36.5M.  Fournier and Rose sum to about $32.5M so I guess that works as a straight trade (Kyrie would have to opt in or whatever).  Maybe this is where this is going.  The Knicks could do this as a straight trade and not be hard capped, although I don't know how much difference that makes for them in terms of their off season options.  Being hard capped might cost them the ability to sign Mitchell Robinson.  Or the Lakers could trade Westbrook.  Not sure either deal makes the Nets better.

So the Nets will have gone from a big 3 of Durant, Harden, and Kyrie to maybe Durant, Simmons, and Westbrook.  That isn't all bad I guess but wow, Durant must be shaking his head wondering what have I gotten myself into.
