Due diligence!!!! apparently other teams practice this or how else does Horford know where he is going?

You’re right. The only logical explanation is they asked Al Horford 3 years ago.

Ainge has known the situation from the beginning.

He knew, at least the fakers were going to pay top dollar for Davis and they did.

He knew he might lose Irving when he traded for him.

In the NBA, the GM can only do so much in pursuit of transcendent players.

Ainge played his cards.

How about today? Oh my gosh, Horford might leave!

Ainge has known all of the comings and goings that's why they pay him millions of dollars.

He took his shot along with a bunch of other GM's didn't he?

The GM's and the agents know the future, it's their job.

"Due diligence" is doing everything in his power to "try" and get the player.

People do what they're gonna do.

You cannot build your franchise in the dark, build assets for one player without having a clue that the guy had zero interest in your team. You are playing nice guy while your players are being poached left and right. Lakers have Magic Kobe and all kinds of people poaching and tampering with players all over the league. NBA needs to clean up this nonsense otherwise they will become the WWF.

How many hands of cards has Danny folded? C’s could of easily beat the trade offers for Cousins (from Sac) Jimmy Butler (both times), Paul George, Porzingis, Tobias Harris, Anthony Davis, Kawhi.

It’s a truly unbelievable mis management of assets. He has nothing but Tatum to show for it. It is 100% his fault. He didn’t take any risks imo and that’s his downfall

Ainge has taken plenty of risks. Irving was certainly one.

Getting three top 6 picks, trading for Irving, signing two max FAs in Hayward and Horford are all much heavier feats than so many other franchises. Plus he has how many picks in the next 2-3 drafts?

We as a fanbase probably have much higher expectations than many other franchises...it's championship or bust here

What do we have now to show for it? Throw Kawhi on this years team we win the finals. The FA signings were fantastic and I’m not arguing he didn’t put Boston in a good position but when he could have went for the kill he didn’t take it. That’s my issue.

Unfortunately, the only thing he really accomplished was getting Brown and Tatum out of the Nets deal.

Boston was good enough to challenge but never good enough to get to the finals.

Now we are a bit better than the last rebuild with some young pieces but that is about all

Lebron tampered for Davis, got in his head, got him to fire his agent and then get a new one to demand a trade.  The plan all along was to get Davis to the Lakers and it worked.  There will be no punishment for this tampering cos LA is the golden child and the NBA wants them to be relevant again.  Clippers don't have the same pull as the Lakers even if they have been better team the past 8 years or so.

Can't blame Ainge for Lebron's tampering and the Lakers willing to sell the entire farm and kitchen sink.  Meanwhile DA would have been crazy/suicidal to give up the kingdom for a 1 year rental with Davis agent posturing - we will stay only 1 year unless it's the Lakers.

As for Kawhi, yeah we should have gone for him.  But look at the Raptors they might still lose him but at least they got their first title win out of it.  PS we weren't the only team not to push a bunch of their chips in for Kahwi.

He also backed out of a Serge Ibaka trade during the 2017 All-Star break after refusing to send Terry Rozier to the Magic.

For sure. Danny's definitely done some great stuff—landing IT, Kyrie, Al, and Gordon, not to mention the Nets fleecing—but as of this moment, the only thing we have to show for it, really, is Tatum and Brown. Two good young players, for sure, but for the past few years I've been hearing about the Celtics' "warchest" or "treasure trove" of assets that would surely, sooner or later, be cashed in (whether entirely or in part) for one or two superstars. But at every such opportunity (Leonard, Butler, etc.), Danny either said "no, thanks" or was unwilling to part with certain assets. And now here we are.

His job is to put a winner on the floor. If he doesn't do that, he's not doing his job and needs to go.

The rebuild started in 2012 when we traded KG and Pierce. Seven. Years. Ago. We don't have a winner now, we won't have a winner for the forseeable future.

How long does he get a Carte blanche for winning that one championship?

We've made the playoffs five out of six years during that rebuild. We also made two Eastern Conference Finals, including one where we were a good 4th quarter away from the NBA Finals against an all-time great player, with two max contract guys injured. We were a #1 seed another year. This season, as trying as it was, we were a winning team that advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs and, after game one, had a legitimate chance of knocking off the best regular season team in the NBA.

I realize we all had high hopes this year and the news the past few days has been disappointing, but maybe a little perspective is in order.

Danny didn't trade for Davis so he must not have done his due diligence is a false equivalent. Ainge did his due diligence and decided making the move was not in the best interest of the Celtics.

Ainge gets involved in just about every big trade that could be happening. Heck, there were reports he was talking to Houston, when the Davis deal was still an ongoing thing. Obviously, he was looking at other options, i.e. doing his due diligence.

You do not WAIT three years for a player that is not coming. I am not talking about due diligence he did in the last six months. I am talking about due diligence he did when he decided that it was Davis or bust, which if you follow these blogs everyone seems to think he made years ago.

Name one legitimate source that says Ainge passed on other trades for 3 years waiting for Davis to become possible. You can't because the premise is absurd; he traded for Kyrie just 2 years ago, which by definition was cashing in our assets, even if the cupboard wasn't empty afterward.

The whole Davis or bust narrative only became a talking point this year, and it was fodder for the blogs, which you've made clear is your only source. Prior to that, of course Ainge lusted after him, as he should have, and as every other GM in the league did. We're talking about a guy who's a top-5 player just entering his prime, a big who can play inside and out.

The truth is that the Lakers made a ridiculous offer. More power to them. I still don't think it guarantees a title or is cause for the angst tonight. Just like Horford wanting a 4 year deal, Danny didn't think it was the smart thing to do long-term.

Ainge has been right virtually every time fans questioned him.
