I realize Ayton played in Arizona and it's a nice story if he just moves up the road to the Suns.  But it's an even nicer story if the new Suns coach gets to coach his ex player Doncic to help ease him into the first-ever-European-born European NBA head coaching job.  But, Ayton is almost unanimously considered a lock or should be lock at #1.

But what about the league moving away from traditional centers?  Perfect excuse to trade Ayton for Doncic, but only if Doncic slides to #3 where the Hawks pick.

It's a crazy never would happen trade so have fun blasting it apart.  I personally think the Knicks come out too far ahead despite giving up Porzingis.  But maybe there's away to arrange so they give up more or get a bit less.

Pretending the idea is valid, this trade takes advantage of Phoenix deciding they'd like to win some games next year and maybe get close to the playoffs even.  It takes advantage of the Knicks seeking relevance.  It takes advantage of the Hawks willingness to move laterally but also be better next year by getting proven Jaylen Brown to his hometown team...wonderful (not for Celtic Brown fans)....and it also cures certain obsessive Celtic fans of their deep anxiety over which wing might have to sit on the bench more than he'd like to, while clearing up some financial concerns too that are on the horizon (or maybe it doesn't do that last thing...not sure), and adds the coveted big man so desperately wanted for next year and the future.

http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ycfwqnsr

Celtics trade Brown, Rozier, Morris, pick 27, Clippers pick
Celtics receive Porzingis, Bender, Hawks pick #19, Hawks pick #33

Suns trade Ayton, Josh Jackson, Bender, Jared Dudley
Suns receive Doncic, Rozier, Morris, Hardaway Jr., pick #9 from Knicks, future Knicks first

Knicks trade Porzingis, Ntikilina, Hardaway Jr., pick #9, future first
Knicks receive Ayton, Josh Jackson, Schroeder

Hawks trade Doncic, Schroeder, pick 19, pick 33
Hawks receive Jaylen Brown, Frank Ntikilina, pick 27, Clippers pick

Before you freak out that the Celtics can't get Porzingis for that, please remember that he tore an ACL this year.....huge risk for the Celtics to do this trade.

At pick 19 I would want Khyri Thomas

Irving, Smart, Larkin
Hayward, Smart, K. Thomas (or Troy Brown, etc.. your favorite player at 19)
Tatum, Hayward, Smart, Ojeleye
Porzingis, Theis, Yabusele, Tatum, Horford,
Horford, Baynes, Theis, Porzingis

The Suns gain pick 9 to take a big man if they want to make up for letting Ayton go.
At 9 there's an outside chance of Bamba or Carter Jr., but more likely they could take Robert Williams, Jontay Porter or Mitchell Robinson
Or they could take a highly rated wing or PG like Sexton at 9, and look for a big at 16.  At 16 they are guaranteed one of (Williams, Porter, Robinson)
They could also go for two bigs:  Jontay Porter at 9 and Williams or Robinson at 16.

The Hawks get pick 27 and have pick 30, and get the Clippers pick to add to Jaylen Brown and Ntikilina....They may still need a sweetener from the Celtics to do the deal.

Stock answer to all trade ideas.  Move along...
ps: there were four teams in the trade.

I do think all the teams get worse. But it's kind of all long term moves to see if things develop type of moves.

C's give up guys that thrived here for a guy coming off a serious injury.

Hawks give up way too much if Brown doesn't become an all star next year.

Knicks are committing to a longer rebuild making their move. NYC fans might bail on that.

Suns GM would be fired. He would be giving up his high picks from his last 3 drafts and create log jam situations.

You're expecting rational answers to a 25 player trade idea?

I'd have to imagine the Celtics are very wary of KP's seemingly fragile body.

Suns probably like that, except it leaves them without any starting calibre bigs after losing Ayton and Bender.

NYK I can see agreeing to that. KP is potentially out for this season, and Jackson was showing really good play at the end of last year. Plus, they haven't had a really dominant big since Ewing (KP is a bit different), and Ayton could be that for them.

Hawks are very reliant on JB continuing his playoff play, and Ntilikina developing into a starter level PG. I like Ntilikina, but that's a gamble.

Overall, I think 3/4 teams say no, as it is just too risky and uncertain, but TP for a creative idea

Welp, it begins...all of the wacky trade ideas and scenarios (I hate this time of the off-season). I hope Danny sticks to his word and have very little movement if any during this off season. The only person under contract worth moving is Rozier.  Couple him and a pick and move up in the draft to select a young big. Keep it real simple this summer and let's run it back with our all-stars healthy!

I didn't realize KP was out for this coming season or any portion of it....forgot how late in the year his injury occurred.  Definite no go for the Celtics.

I think the Suns and Knicks say yes quickly, and agree that the Hawks could easily not agree to it..they'd have to really like the angle that JB is from Atlanta and think that he might bring fans in once he's an allstar.  Too big a gamble and Atlanta is so huge that probably no one cares much about the player's hometown thing...Brown is also desirable however for his character smarts and work ethic...but Bagley and others who might be there at 3 can surely brag the same.  But Brown is definitely a proven commodity now, so if the Hawks are interested in a bit of a jump start they could like it.

So Celtics no, Suns Yes, Knicks yes, Hawks probably not is where I"m at.

The Suns can easily get a different center.  There is pick 9 and 16 separately or combined to move up.
Free agency, etc..  I think they'd be quite good next year with the following, including pick 9 and 16 and a re-signed Alex Len:

Rozier, B. Knight   or Sexton or Gilgeous Alexander
Booker, Doncic, Rozier, B. Knight
Doncic, Warren,
J. Porter/Robert Williams, Chriss
Len, Chandler

Doncic is hefty...he could play at PF in small lineups..:

Sexton/Gilgeous Alexander
Rozier
Booker
Doncic
Robert Williams

TP....I like run it back too.  I don't take the trade threads seriously unless something really doable and sensible appears.  Since I'm not in any fantasy leagues I use it for that....but also it's fun to try to create balance and discuss incentive...knowing there is no reality to it.

In this case it is true.

Also, this is real life not NBA live.

Celtics trade Brown, Rozier, Morris, pick 27, Clippers pick
Celtics receive Porzingis, Bender, Hawks pick #19, Hawks pick #33

Knicks trade Porzingis, Ntikilina, Hardaway Jr., pick #9, future first

I have to give you a TP for putting in all that work to come up with this idea. Has there ever been a 4-team trade?

Definite TP, since the trade threads are the only thing that keep me sane during the summer. I've never understood why people get so upset about these threads.
