Title: 10 Years Ago Today
Post by: Surferdad on July 31, 2017, 04:06:04 PM
I knew the date was coming up and sure enough a quick search yielded an article by Rich Levine, it was EXACTLY 10 YEARS AGO today.

I still have "Day After Day" by Badfinger ringing in my head when I think about it.  That commercial will haunt me (in a good way) forever.  I learned the song on the piano and still love to play it.  Great band, great Celtics milestone.

I want them to get banner 18 if for no other reason than to have them play that song in the promos the following season.  used to give me chills after banner 17

Red Sox won the World Series that year in spite of Gagne.  That turned out to be an awful acquisition.

I was in the process of moving in with my then-girlfriend, now-wife, and missed the announcement til we got our Internet set up on August 2nd and I casually checked ESPN.com.

When I saw that big splash headline about KG to Boston, I literally screamed. And that was just the start of the best season I've ever experienced as a fan. Good times.

That very day... I was 23 years old, in debt from college with a mediocre paying job... and I remember pacing back and forth in my bedroom while on a cordless (not cell) phone with my best friend discussing the pros and cons of whether to go in and buy season tickets or not.

We did.  And no sports experience has ever matched those two months of 2008 ever since.  None.
