Amazing. He’ll easily surpass Kareem and be the top rookie playoff scorer of all-time if we advance to the Finals, but he could very well pass Kareem in a game 7 against Cleveland with two more 20+ point games.

hope it doesn't happen because the Celts needs to close it out in 6

Tatum will break the record in the finals

76er fans are like "fultz and Simmons are better"

Meanwhile fultz and Simmons are on the couch watching Tatum defeat lebron, while 76er fans are wondering "what if" they had Tatum instead of fultz

Lol

Yeah I just saw that article.  It's pretty insane.  Tatum is 44 points away from becoming the all time highest scoring rookie in NBA playoff history.

I'd like to see the Celtics win game 6, but most likely we have to return to Boston and win it in game 7.  If we make it to the NBA Finals, pinch me am I dreaming because we are just 1 game away, Tatum will definitely break the record!

Didn't get as many votes for All-Rookie as Simmons and Mitchell.

Cs are making some of these NBA awards look more useless than usual.

Tempting to say this is the best rookie playoff series ever.

Obviously Kareem was on another planet (but was bounced in the second round of the 1970 playoffs), but I'd be interested to hear from our older bloggers if they think it is harder for a rookie these days.

Alvan Adams is interesting too. Crazy good NBA finals in '76 - highest scorer for the Suns in a 6-game series (which Dave Cowens dominated), where he shot the highest FG% on their whole team (higher than Paul Westphal). Obviously the C's left him more open than Westphal, but still..

Elgin Baylor actually shot a pretty low percentage during his 3-series playoff run in 1960. Just above 40%

I think Tatum is easily 3rd best already, maybe 2nd (just in front of Adams).

Curious to hear any other thoughts about historical comparisons for rookies in playoffs.

He is now leading the Celtics in these playoffs at 18.4 ppg.

And Jaylen is number 2 at 17.8 ppg.

The future (and the present) is SO bright... 8) 8) 8)

Which is why I think its nuts that people want to involve either of these guys in a trade package.

He was so [dang] good last night. Just amazing all around effort by him in all areas of the game.

Next up for him. Lots and lots of angry threads whenever he isn't this amazing every game next season.

Go look at what Magic did in the Finals as a rookie, pay special attention to what he did in the Finals clinching game with Kareem out with an injury.

Tough to compare rookies across different eras in regard to field goal percentage, the league average was .395 during Elgin Baylor's rookie season and .398 during the playoffs , so he was above league average.

He was 24 years old , Kareem(Lew Alcindor) was 22 . Difference in physical maturity compared to Tatum who turned 20 in March.

Also have to compare whether each player was the clear cut number one option on their respective teams and compare how much defensive attention each received relative to each other as well.

It is great what Tatum is doing at his age on the stage he is doing it though.

Exactly...no reason to trade...teams would kill to have ONE prospect as good as Tatum or Brown...and the Celtics have TWO.

Let this run its course and see where this dynamic duo can go.

Convo starts and ends with Magic. Averaging a near triple double with 18ppg and over 3 steals per game leading his team to a ring is unreal.

However if JT goes to the Finals and averages like, 25ppg and we win #18 that topic heats up

Ya bottom line is we have to win it all this year, then we can have that conversation. Not impossible, I'd like our chances a lot more against the Rockets.
