It is with great sadness we have learned that Celtics Legend and Hall of Famer John Havlicek has passed away peacefully today at the age of 79. He will be dearly missed by his Celtics family.

Awful news. Just terrible.  Top 3 Celtic of all time. One of the Celtics that doesn’t get discussed enough on these boards.  Talk to anyone of a certain age & they’ll tell you just how incredible of an athlete, and not just a basketball player, Hondo was.

RIP John. I was born over a decade after Johnny Most's famous commentary "Havlicek stole the ball" but it's all part of what made the Celtics special to me growing up, those memories. The history of our team. Condolences to his family and friends.

No offense to Pierce and all the youngins who disagree, but Hondo's resume makes him a no-brainer as a Top 3 Celtic all-time. Super sad. Bummer.

Go win the title for Hondo. Legend.

Oh man.  That's a tough one.  My first memories of the Celtics were of his latter years and he was still awesome.  Many many hours spent listening to Johnny Most on the Havlicek Stole the Ball record.  If the Celtics hadn't sucked so bad towards the end of his career he might have hung around to overlap with Bird (like Cowens).  Hondo was a horse and clutch as anyone.  By all accounts a kind and generous human as well.  RIP Hondo.

Unfortunate. RIP, Hondo.

Havlicek and Dave Cowens were the first Celtics players that I knew as such.  I was maybe nine years old (about 1967) and living near NYC so I was a NY Knicks fans (insert Bronx cheer right here).  I saw them play the Celtics on TV and was impressed with their uptempo style.  NYK played a much slower more deliberate game.

Yeah, I was born in 1980 so I missed out on all the pre-Big 3 lore, but that history was grand and Havlicek was a huge huge part of it. He will certainly be missed.

Very sad news. Definitely on the Mount Rushmore of Celtics legends. Didn’t know he had Parkinson’s.

Hope the team spends the next couple days learning about Hondo and all he did for the franchise.

Tough loss for the organization.

RIP to an all-time great. Before my time but always a true legend.

We gotta appreciate the old greats we have left while we can because realistically we're gonna lose most of them in the next 5-10 too.

Would be a totally mad story if the Cs could pull out a title now...
