Article on Horford's poor performance for Philly.

To be honest, like I've said many times, this is really on Elton Brand.

I cannot see him staying that much longer, I would presume he would get axed either by the end of this season or definitely going to be on the hot seat if they keep him.

Who else was really giving Horford 4/$97?

I can't imagine the Kings would even entertain that thought either. And the fact they managed to seal the deal so quickly at FA, tells me that Elton Brand was quite literally bidding against himself.
Let's construct the all-time great team of players to turned out to be mediocre GMs:  Elton Brand, Isaiah Thomas, Michael Jordan...

Elgin Baylor's Clipper tenure was pretty ugly. Unseld and Willis Reed also had rough stints... that's a pretty darn good team!
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Elgin Baylor also had an owner that would have made it impossible to win no matter what imo. Can't tell if he had potential or not given Sterling.

Most GMs fail, so no surprise most ex-players (HoF players or not) fail. Now that stars make so much money I am skeptical most stars are going to grind after retirement to be a great GM though.

This has gotten painful to watch. Danny somehow knew
Danny 100% did not know.

Danny and the Celtics were going to give him a 3 year $90 million dollar deal. I am sure they'd have tried to get some incentives built into that last year, similar to Horford's philly deal. But Danny was still willing to give Al another big deal.

McHale didn't exactly light the world on fire as a GM.

The difference is that Horford in our system would be much better (edit: by better, I don't mean his numbers would be that much better, but I mean that his on-court play would be impacting winning more). Making Horford the scapegoat for the Sixers is ridiculous.

I still strongly believe that Al Horford still has a LOT to offer a club.

He is simply better than what PHI is portraying him to be.

PHI is doing a GREAT job in making him the Poster Boy for their ills - and they are MANY..

You have a GREAT center that can't stay on the court and wants to make funny gifs and joke about "Real Estate" all day. Don't believe he is serious about his gifts (or craft), yet.

Drops 40 and 20 on a team one day...then has abysmal and sub-par performances the next.

You have a Unicorn of a PG in Simmons that has his flaws as well.

Philadelphia's window - while at one time seemed open for a few years - is now closing, IMO. I think they've gotten worse.

If PHI is merciful they'll offload Al once their season comes to an end in late April and let him go to a better team.....BUT - they won't have a poster boy to frame anymore so I doubt that happens.

Which team would want his contract?

Good question.

I'd hope that some team out there with a need for his versatility can give him another chance - and yes absorb that contract.

I just believe that PHI is 1 lit match away from a Dumpster Fire.....they are VERY close to it. I want Al out of there when this happens.

A first round exit and I expect a 4 alarm fire in PHI this April.

Didn't McHale draft Garnett and Love. Didn't the owner blow the hole thing up with a written promise to a player that lost them draft picks? The T-Wolves haven't been even a little better without McHale.

Well, technically, he drafted Mayo then swapped him for Love.

He also drafted Brandon Roy and swapped him for Randy Foye.  Also drafted Ray Allen
& swapped him for Stephon Marbury.

How much (or little) McHale was involved in the Joe Smith thing, I'm not sure we'll ever know.  Regardless, that did nothing to help the franchise and helped squander away some of KG's prime.
