I know this will sound crazy to some but I think Scal can be a reliable back up for PP.  He can stretch the floor, he plays hard, and he moves his feet on D.  Is it asking too much?

yes, it's asking too much.

Scal tries hard and has a good basketball IQ but that will only take you so far...he doesn't have the athleticism to play SF (or any position really) for more than a few minutes at a time

Maybe a few minutes here and there, and against a few particular matchups, but Scal's the 6th big, not really a wing.  We'll see House and Daniels on the floor with either Ray or Paul.

They'd LOVE for either Giddens or Daniels to step up and take those few minutes (especially games when Paul or Ray find themselves in foul trouble early).

Scal is a bad SF. I like him as a PF, that's where his strength is... big man rotation help defensively and stretching the floor.

I like Scal at PF.
Depending on the match-up, I wouldn't mind seeing him at SF, but he's certainly not a Paul Pierce backup.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Hey, I am searching for an answer here that may not exist.  We still need to find rest for PP somehow.  I am thinking Scal can be part of the solution at least.  Or not.  I guess we'll see.

That's why Marquis Daniels is here. He'll be resting Ray and Paul both.

I like Scal on the bench.

He's a valuable 10th/11th man. Any 10th/11th man should only see court time in garbage time, foul trouble, and injuries.

I'd prefer if the C's avoided the last two.

Very true.

Fortunately, our team is just too good for a guy like Scal to break the rotation.

False, house will sub for rondo, but daniels will bring the ball up as the PG most possessions allowing eddie to roam and spot up. ( its what their doing in practice so far anyway, according to the globe) then him and Daniels will switch defensive responsibly so that eddie covers the PG on defense.

also, considering posey rested the 2, 3 and 4 spots throughout the championship season, it's not really that difficult.

All it takes is effective subbing by the head coach, leaving 2 guys on the court and getting one guy off to rest, then rotating.
