he was a good special teams player and locker room guy, but that's it.

It depends what the deal was for.  obviously if it was for the vet minimum then I am not crazy about the deal, but muc more then that and it would represent too much.

This doesn't bother me. He would have been starting his 14th season and with a ton of picks I'm pretty sure we can find someone younger and faster to get him. Also Izzo had no positional value at all.

Pats special teams have been a lot less special recently.  Hard for me to say whether Izzo's been in decline, whether that's had any discernable impact.  They'll be drafting some young linebackers who'll fill his role on special teams.
