Regarding coaches, I have heard some rather vehement distaste for this part of the game and I would ask, why?

I have read that some feel that coaches have never gotten a team a bump in the voting before and I would ask, how do you know that? Did you poll every voter to gauge whether team x, y, or z was judged higher or lower based on their coach?

I know Roy takes them into consideration as I do.  There's as many as 24-33 votes come the regular season. As the playoffs go deeper, voters tend to disappear and I know votes can go as low as 20-22 votes in the playoffs. If you pick an elite coach, you are probably getting a bump up or possibly a playoff vote from at least 6-10% of the voters, as Roy and I vote every round every year. Pick a bad coach or make a "joke" out of it and you could risk a fall in the voting or losing a playoff vote from anywhere between 6-10% of the voters.

If others take coaches into consideration those percentages of voters affected rises.

So if you do not want to have the coaches round anymore, I would like to hear why.

Coaches round is bull-stuff

Why?

Coaches are more important than the 13th man on a roster.  Why shouldn't they be considered?

I mean, I like the old days when coaches were often fictional characters, because that added a silly element of fun.  However, with coaches playing such a vital role in real life, why is it "bull-stuff" for them to play a role in team evaluation?

I just don't like the way it is handled.  It's supposed to be important, but it's obvious few actually give it much thought or credence.

Either it needs to have real weight, and therefore have restrictions on who can be picked, or not.

I find the current "system" to be a farce.  Ultimately, I'll refer you to Buzz Killington, I find it just sucks the fun out of the whole thing.  I know it has for me.
What exactly do you feel would be happening during this weekend if the coaches round wasn't happening?

What guidelines would you have for selection of a coach?

Just how much weight is a coach supposed to receive in regards to a franchise? Larry Brown is a Hall of Fame coach. he had lots and lots of just awful teams. Except for say Phil Jackson, just about every elite coach has coached a terrible team.

My two cents on the coaches: if you really don't care, then what's the inconvenience of typing a name of any old coach on your computer screen? Maybe 30 seconds of your time?

And for those of us who do care, they get to put some thought into it, and maybe pick the perfect fit of a coach.

Kane, if you are still here, please check PM's.  I'm tired, cranky, and ready for bed soon.  Freakin' work, I hate work!

If I stay on here much longer, Milwaukee's gonna need a new GM (nothing to do with you).

Who is your starting center, or starting power forward? Are they better than Tiago Splitter?

Well, he can play both at a high level (link). And he is a favorite of basketball analysts. Here's the most recent blurb:

http://m.espn.go.com/nba/story?storyId=9591336
Quote
Splitter has developed into a solid post option on offense and a high IQ positional team defender. His rebounding has improved, but it still needs to climb as he's expected to earn an even greater share of minutes, necessary if the Spurs intend to preserve Duncan

These things are pretty useful. It's nice when a fellow poster says something favorable about your player in debate, but when it comes to making a definitive point, basically the holy trinity is easily cited statistical production, professional analyst endorsement, and on-court success and experience resulting in wins.

Splitter has all 3. Does your guy? Some do. Many dont.
