Amare wants to go to a contender...Sactown and Phoenix want to save money...and Boston wants to win now while staying competitive for years to come. I'm not a huge fan of blowing up our nucleus, as I have grown attached to all of our players. However, anything less than championships is failure, and staying competitive for the next decade is what matters more than anything. We have a lot of expirings, and there are a lot of teams looking to save money. The following trade isn't based on talent for Sactown and PHX as much as based on finances. Phoenix saves money while staying competitive with another great shooter next to Nash. Sactown gives the reigns to the team completely over to Tyreke and saves them money.

Why would Sac add Perk when they already have Hawes?

Because Perk is a lot better than Hawes.

I have no idea why the Suns do this, though.  I'm also not so sure we'd be that much better...what we lose defensively would offset what we gain offensively.  I don't think I'd do it, even if those other teams actually wanted to do it.

But what's the point?

Hawes is their C going forward.  Why waste a Martin trade to get another C instead of star player at another position they need?

Not a bad point, but they've been starting Jon Brockman at C lately instead of Hawes, so there's evidence to suggest that the Kings don't necessarily think of Hawes as their C going forward.

You see a trade where we're trading Ray for Amare and your first question is this?

I'd guess that it's so they could sell it as something other than a straight salary dump.

We're not getting Evans and Thompson too? Terrible deal for the C's!

I always look at all the teams motivation.  This one was the biggest jumpout.

Better off with Ray going to Sac for their salary dump and KP-43 going to the Suns so they at least get a good player there at low money instead of just losing Amare to free agency. If the trade would still work that way contract wise?

Bigger than trading Amare for Ray?

That would be an awesome trade! If we could do something like that we would be able to contend for awhile.

Amare is expiring and Ray is expiring, so why the heck would the Suns do this and be worse this year? Also, Ray is making more than Amare this year. On second thought, it looks like Amare has an early termination...that is pretty odd. So if they want it to be an expiring, it can be.

This is pretty much a no brainer for us, btw. Amare is a monster. Sacto might do this, although it depends on how they value Perkins. They can possible get more for Kevin Martin, but they'd love to get out from Noc's contract.
