Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons has agreed to a five-year, $170 million maximum contract extension

Philly spent a ton of cash this year! All in!
Its an extension so it doesn't kick in until after next season.  They won't pay the tax this season.

I was clarifying that the money spent on Simmons isn't actually being spent this year.
Not being a taxpaying team this season means the soonest the repeater tax could affect them is the 23/24 season.  That's the season after Horford's contract ends.

On July 26, exactly three years after Beal signed his max deal, the Wizards can officially present a three-year, $111 million extension. The team has indicated it plans to give Beal the offer, and both the player’s camp and the franchise have remained in contact throughout the summer. Around the league, however, the extension is not viewed as a done deal, and there is a growing belief that Beal will not remain in Washington for his entire career.

“He’s out of there,” one well-placed person within the NBA predicted.

While I've not been huge on the tanking display that Philly engaged in for so many years, I have to say that they really have needed to make good decisions along the way (knowing that you can't make all the right ones).  And the obvious struggle for non-LAL teams is that you can't count on players choosing to come your way, or remain with you.  They've done well and if they should end up playing LAL in June I will be rooting like crazy for them.

Against the clippers?

That would be a good deal for the Wiz.  Locking him up through his age 31 season.  Beal would probably be better off playing out his current contract and then doing a 1+1 to get him to 10 seasons and 35%Max eligible.

As Dragan Bender continues to explore the NBA market, Cleveland and Toronto are among the teams that have inquired, I've been told, European market remains an option for the Croatian forward. CSKA Moscow and Fenerbache are looking at his situation with some level of interest.

Bender is still only 21yrs old and some teams around the NBA still believe that his potential is worth a chance, a league source told me.

That's how you know the offseason starts to get boring when Dragon Bender's name comes up.

Thanks for clarifying but it's still a lot of money locked up. I just think they are all in on this team. A finals or bust move.

I don't know that Beal is a 35% max kind of player.  And he has a history of knee trouble.  If Washington offers him a full maximum extension, he absolutely should take it.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

He should take that much money. It's a ton of cash but he'll never play a meaningful game in DC.

They're definitely focused on making the finals and winning a championship.  They locked in their core when they signed Harris and Horford.  There was no doubt that Simmons was going to get a Max extension.  I think Richardson is a good fit for their team but he'd be easy to trade if someone better became available.

NBA Rumors: Chris Paul Prefers Heat, Thunder Will Have To Trade Picks

Chris Paul was dealt to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Russell Westbrook last week in a trade that nearly caused the internet to explode, but it still isn’t clear where Paul will be on opening night next season.

The Miami Heat have been rumored as a possible landing spot for the former Houston Rockets point guard, but that would entail taking on Paul’s enormous contract. Paul, 34, is owed roughly $124 million over the next three seasons.

So yes, the Heat will need some incentive to take on that hefty contract, and it appears they’re asking for just that. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst appeared on “SportsCenter” Monday night, reporting that Miami is Paul’s preferred destination. One catch — they want their picks back. OKC holds two of Miami’s future first-round selections and, according to Windhorst, the Heat want those included in a potential deal.

“When you talk about him potentially going to the Miami Heat, which is his preference, one thing I’ve been told in the talks; the fact that the Thunder hold the two of the Heat’s first-round picks in the future — unprotected 2021, protected 2023 — makes this a difficult conversation because the Heat want those picks back,” Windhorst said. “The Thunder have expressed an interest in giving one of those picks back but they would want another pick farther off into the future. So I do think that these teams have a lot to talk about.”

OKC has no shortage of assets. Since draft night, Thunder general manager Sam Presti has acquired a remarkable eight first-round picks. It’s understandable that Miami wants its own picks back, but there are plenty of options in these negotiations. If Paul ends up in South Beach, he’ll likely have first-rounders coming with him, whether they were previously owned by Miami or not.

As for veterans Kyle Lowry, Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka – who are all on expiring deals – the Raptors have no intention of moving them, at least not before the season, according to sources. Like he did with previous Raptors teams, Ujiri will give this group an opportunity to sink or swim before choosing a path and deciding what comes next.

Free agent Reggie Bullock finally signs deal with Knicks

Bullock is expected to miss at least a month of the regular season

The Knicks and Reggie Bullock have finally reached a deal after a medical issue led to a snag, with the free agent signing a two-year pact for less than the $4.7 million exception, his agent David Bauman told SNY's Ian Begley.

Bullock's deal with the Knicks is structured similarly to their other two-year agreements, per SNY sources: it isn't fully guaranteed in the second year, which essentially makes it a team option.

SNY sources confirm that the Bullock deal is for $8.2 million in total, confirming an ESPN report.

There is no specific timetable for Bullock to be on the court at the moment. But, per SNY sources, Bullock is expected to miss at least a month of the regular season due to his ailment.

It was initially reported that Bullock had agreed to a two-year, $21 million deal with New York. However, that changed when the medical issue hampered the original agreement. But mutual interest between the Knicks and Bullock remained in the wake of the medical issue.

The Dallas Mavericks have waived forward Kostas Antetokounmpo, who’s on a two-way NBA deal.

Time for the Bucks to step up in their quest to keep Giannis.
