This pursuit seems to be the Timberwolves building their team to appease Towns instead of a winning roster. What will keep Towns happy and wanting to continue to be in Minnesota is winning and this is not a winning move in the long term. They're going to utilize their best assets on acquiring a player who is probably best as a 3rd option on a contender.
They're situation is reminiscent of the Pelicans and AD. Their first option should be improving their general management and scouting department and draft odds for these next 2-3 years before increased losing and the contract situation compounds the problem. Unless it's for a player like Bradley Beal, giving up draft compensation to acquire a player should be out of the question.
At this point, trading Wiggins for CP3+/-1st or Westbrook+/-1st instantly improves the team and, before the Teague trade, a Wiggins/Teague/Dieng for Beal/Wall would have been a very interesting trade.
